With a software update, Apple will soon enable hidden temperature and humidity sensors in the HomePod mini. Here’s what will happen

Apple launched a a new HomePod with a new feature Friday night. But the surprise is that the HomePod mini will also get this feature, which will let the smart speaker monitor the temperature and humidity in a space. Reason? Inside the tiny monitor is a mystery.

Own a HomePod mini, do you? Do you know that it has a secret sensor inside that has been dormant since its launch. Up until now, that is. Apple has finally made the decision to turn on this sensor via a software update. Once activated, this covert sensor will enable HomePod mini owners to record and keep track of the temperature and humidity in their surroundings. Once enabled, the functionality will ask Siri to deliver this temperature and humidity information.
Users of the HomePod Mini are undoubtedly shocked to learn that their smart speaker has been hiding such a beneficial feature all this time. When it unveiled the updated HomePod on Wednesday night, Apple disclosed the functionality. Additionally equipped with the same sensor, the new HomePod will provide comparable functions.

Apple built in temperature and humidity sensors when creating the HomePod small. but for some reason didn’t decide to turn it on. Now that the HomePod will be re-released in 2023, Apple has made the decision to activate the capabilities in the HomePod tiny as well with the most recent software update.
Because of these built-in sensors, if you were considering purchasing the recently released HomePod, you might want to reconsider and fall in love with your current HomePod small once more.
Apple will reportedly turn on the dormant internal sensors inside the smart tiny speaker in the upcoming days, according to rumours. The new function is also mentioned by Apple in their online advertisement for the HomePod Mini, which claims that the temperature and humidity sensors would enable you to create a “smart home hub.”

Users must update the HomePod mini to the next software update in order to access the feature. It will probably debut together with iOS 16.3.

Early on after its debut, a Bloomberg investigation had highlighted the fact that the HomePod mini contained a sensor that was dormant. After some time, iFixit’s speaker teardowns proved that the speaker had a sensor.Apple claims that once the HomePod mini’s temperature and humidity tracking is turned on, it will gather this information from the surrounding air. According to the manufacturer, customers should ask Siri for the temperature or humidity while the speaker is not playing music in order to get the most accurate measurements.

The HomePod small was introduced in 2020, and it is presently sold by Apple shops and the Apple Online Store in India. The smart speaker costs Rs 10,900 and was commended for having excellent sound quality despite being so small. While the recently released HomePod is priced at Rs 32,900.
